1st and 2nd Shape-South and East Europe Enrichment Workshops

Romania and Hungary

Organised by EAZA working with The Shape of Enrichment, Inc. and the Romanian Zoo and Aquaria Federation

Under the umbrella of the EAZA Academy EAZA is pleased to support The Shape of Enrichment in presenting its first two workshops in South and East Europe. The workshops will be hosted by:

Timisoara Zoo, Romania, 2-5 November 2011

Nyíregyháza Zoo, Hungary, 13-16 November 2011

The Shape of Enrichment Workshops are designed to assist interested animal caretakers in creating and maintaining enrichment plans to fit any budget. The hands-on workshops will cover cutting edge environmental enrichment techniques that aim to develop a rounded approach to using enrichment as part of zoo husbandry programs.

The workshop activities have been developed especially for keepers, curators, biologists, and veterinarians regardless of their experience in this field. Participants will improve their understanding of how to efficiently and effectively plan enrichment programs to enhance the welfare of animals in their care.

The workshop will involve both theory and practical activities in environmental enrichment planning and problem-solving techniques. There will be many opportunities throughout to address specific issues that participants would like to discuss and we encourage active involvement from all attendees in order for the workshop to be of maximum benefit.

Valerie Hare will be your instructor. She is co-founder and Workshop Coordinator for The Shape of Enrichment, Inc., which began in 1991. She has instructed enrichment workshops in many countries around the globe since 2000. Her varied experiences within animal collections have contributed to her qualifications to create and instruct applied high-quality enrichment workshops.

The workshops will be taught in English, with translation to Romanian or Hungarian provided.

The first and last days of the workshop will be half days, to allow travel time for the participants.

The workshop registration fee of €30 / 130 RON / 8,250 HUF includes:

• All workshop materials

• Lunches, drinks and snacks during the scheduled breaks

The number of available places at this workshop is limited, so please book early.
